Unfortunately things didn't go to plan for Andy Murray and after seemingly being in impressive form, having won in Doha where he beat Federer again and Roddick in the final after 3 straightforward wins (including impressive Meltzer win) he went down in 5 sets to the last 16 to Fernando Verdasco.  The spaniard was in tremendous form in the crucial stages of the match but I felyt Andy wasn't aggressive enough at times and the fact that he had picked up a virus didn't help.  Anyway Verdasco showed that result was no fluke and went on to give Nadal an almighty test in the semis  (best match of the tournament) and only succumbed 6-4 in the 5th.  He now goes on to face Roger Federer in the final and Fed has turned it on after loomking shaky in a 5 set win over Thomas Berdych.  He has been looking imperious after that and swept aside Del Porto for the loss of 3 games and  beat Roddick who had been playing well in straights in his semi.

Well, another great final between Federer and Nadal with the spaniard taking it 7-5, 3-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-2.  For 4sets there certainly some spellbounding tennis but once again Nadal capitalised on opportunities generally much better and proved stronger in the end despite an injury scare with his thigh in the 3rd set.  Federer though played a disappointing 5th and his serve let him down at crucial times in the match.  So though not quite same standard as Wimbledin final it was most enjoyable and Nadal a worthy winner.  Federer was disappointed at his display in the end and was a bit emotional at the ceremony.
